Looking back you might notice that every concept, strategy or practice I have suggested can only happen in the present moment.
Eckhart Tolle's presentation of the present moment in the Power of Now is brilliant. To understand what being present really means and to live from it consistently is one goal of this movement, and it's what empowers us to end complaining.
Our observer/witness can only exist in the present moment. That means that when we are lost in thought or emotion, we have lost touch with our witness wisdom that lets us respond consciously to our thoughts and emotions. Without presence and awareness, we just react and usually end up creating a lot more to complain about.
When you're present and accounted for; you can mentally be in the past, present or future, and still be presently aware, conscious and response able.
When you lose your present moment awareness it's like falling of a surfboard on a big wave. You're just surfing the day. The next thing you know? You're underwater, can't breathe, (we also stop breathing when we get emotionally overwhelmed), you're being thrown about and your disoriented, and you're just holding your breath until the water (uncomfortable emotion) decides to release you.
All we can do is surrender until it's over, make it to the surface and get back on top of our game. This is what can learn to do, when we lose consciousness and get swept away by our misguided negativity.
If we're always present, we're always in touch with our witness wisdom to guide us. If you take the same wise awareness you have now as you're reading this, and stay centered in this in every moment, this "real you" will be the only one left in control.
The present moment is the sacred space and living room couch of the observer and you have the remote. With practice you can learn to change your mind as easily as you change channels on the TV.
Whatever station you don't like; What ever negative thoughts or feelings pop up on your screen doesn't matter. Once you can stay awake and watch your mental and emotional process as it happens, you will never be unconsciously manipulated by the programs of your complaining, critical and condemning mind again.
Practice: Everyday take 5 to 10 minutes at least 1x daily, preferably twice. Rest in your observer.
Watch yourself,
kindly question your thoughts and feelings,
accept them without negativity,
and respond to them however you choose.
That's all it takes to start, and the awareness you gain will naturally begin to follow you. If you follow me on twitter and receive phone tweets, you will be reminded of this each day automatically. :) https://twitter.com/KnowComplaints
Next I will explain in simple and concise way, how and why the complaining and critical mind came to be. It's really quite simple and doesn't need to be a problem. This understanding gives us what we need to move beyond it.
Peace to you,
Bryan.
